Good genes have a lot to do with how long you’ll live. But if you make a few positive changes in your lifestyle, you can extend that time even further. Studies suggest that a healthy lifestyle is one of the biggest factors that determine how long a person will live.

Apparently, these healthy habits are a part of the daily lives of the centenarians. Make these a part of your habits now and get ready to blow out more candles.

Eat a healthy diet

Leafy greens are the best foods for increasing your lifespan. In fact, studies show that people who eat a cup of green leafy vegetables everyday are less likely to die in the next 4 years as compared to those who do not eat vegetables.

Those who eat meat more frequently have a 13% risk of mortality than those who consume meat sparingly. Experts suggest limiting meat intake or switching up your protein intake. Eat more fish such as tuna, sardines, mackerel and salmon instead. People who eat vegetables and include a portion of fish into their daily diet are the ones who live the longest.

Move around

Daily exercise can add up to 3 years to your life. But some people say that they are too busy to incorporate exercise into their daily routine. The truth is, you don’t have to go the gym to burn some calories.

You can walk around the neighborhood or the mall, do laps around the field while your kids are at soccer practice or take the stairs. Find ways to move a little more every day.

Floss everyday

Daily flossing is a crucial element to dental health. Flossing not only helps reduce the amount of gum disease-causing bacteria in the mouth, it also helps keep your arteries healthy. Bacteria in the mouth can lead to heart diseases, and possibly stroke, when released into the bloodstream. Keep your gums in shape by flossing every day.

Get happy

One study revealed that happy people are 3 times less likely to die over a certain period of time than those who aren’t. Laugh a lot and make the life you live a happy one.
