In honor of American Heart Month, let’s pause to appreciate our hearts.

  • Our hearts beat about 42 million times in a year.
  • In our lifetime our hearts move about 1 million barrels of blood throughout out bodies.
  • Our hearts work tirelessly, mostly without our noticing.
  • In energy medicine, the heart chakra is the location of love, compassion, inspiration and generosity.

Unfortunately heart disease is still the number one cause of death in our nation.

What can we do to protect and honor our hearts?


  • Develop positive relationships with others.
  • Eat more bright green veggies, whole grains, and colorful meals.
  • Participate in a regular activity that challenges your heart and gives you joy.
  • Learn how to develop resilience to stress.
  • Set aside personal time for reflection and self-care.
  • Practice daily gratitude for what you have in your life.


Right now, stop and take a moment to honor and appreciate your heart.  Place your hands over your heart center.  Think about how fortunate you are to have a beating heart and send feelings of love to that area.  Now, how does that feel?
